General Questions:

  • Scouting is a youth program that aims to develop character, leadership, and citizenship in young people. Through outdoor activities, educational programs, and community service, Scouts learn valuable life skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships.

  • Traditional Scouting programs are for all youth ages 5K - 18 years old.

  • Scouting programs are divided into the following age groups: Cub Scouts (ages 5-10), Scouts BSA (ages 11-17), Venturing (ages 14-20), and Exploring (ages 14-20).

Registration and Costs

  • The cost to join Scouts in $103. This is once a year cost. Packs and Troops will also have dues that are decided by the Unit. Some units do not charge dues while others range from $25 a year to $400.

  • Yes! We do offer financial assistance to Scouts that are in need of help to join the program. Speak to you Cubmaster or Scoutmaster to learn more! You can find the form to apply here.

Uniforms and Gear

  • You can purchase a uniform at our Scout Shop either in person on online. We are located eat 420 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. OR visit our online store here.

  • In addition to join a Scout Unit, your child would need a uniform. Each unit has different requirements for what a Scout should wear for meetings and activities. Make sure to check with the Unit to know if you will need to purchase a full uniform or only certan pieces.

Activities and Events

  • Scouts participate in a variety of activities, including camping, hiking, community service projects, merit badge classes, and leadership training. Each program is designed to provide age-appropriate challenges and learning opportunities.

  • Scout meetings typically occur weekly, while activities and events such as camping trips, service projects, and special outings are scheduled throughout the year. Check with your local unit for their specific schedule.

    The Scout year usually follows the school calendar, starting in the fall and ending in the summer. During this time, Scouts will participate in regular meetings, seasonal activities, and various camps and events.

Safety and Policies

  • Yes, all Council staff and volunteers are required to take Youth Protection Training. You can find more information on what Scouting America is doing to ensure safety here.

  • There are medical forms required for your Scout to attend certain events. These forms can be found here. The Unit leader will let you know if medical forms are needed prior to an event.

Volunteering and Involvement

  • Units are always thankful to have parents who want to be invovled in their child's Scouting journey. At the Cub Scout level - parental/guardian invovlement is required For Scouts BSA parents are encouraged to partcipate as well as leaders within the Unit. Check with your child's Cubmaster or Scoutmaster to see what positions you can help fill!

  • All adults who want to volunteer for a leadership position are required to take Youth Protection Training (YPT). Based on the position you will be taking in the Unit, there is additional training. Please chat with your Child's Cubmaster or Scoutmaster to learn more!
